Surrey to Pineridge, April 19 - 21

April 19
We had a ton of fun last night with Steve & Dianne and we can feel it a little bit this morning, not too bad though. We were smart and drank a couple glasses of water before the end of the night. Coffee and a small breakfast will make it all better. We were all packed up and slides in by 9 am. With hugs and handshakes we said so long to Steve & Dianne. It sure was great to get to see them. It was a beautiful, sunny day as we headed out, pointed the rig east and hit the road.
Traffic was very light and we had no issues getting back to the Coquihalla (Hwy 5).
I love tunnels!
Wheeee!!
The snow pack was noticeably lower than it was 7 weeks ago. Spring really is here!!
Seven weeks ago this snow bank was taller than our truck! Once through the Coq we continued east through Merritt (where we fuelled up for 10 cents/litre cheaper than on the coast) to Kamloops. Just east of Kamloops traffic slowed as we passed a crew installing wire mesh (looked almost like chain-link fence) on the rock cliffs beside the road to prevent falling rocks into traffic. I'm not sure what they pay this guy but it isn't enough!!
The picture doesn't look as high as it was and doesn't depict the falling rocks and debris as he was drilling into it. Nope, couldn't pay me enough to go up there! We continued east through Barriere. There was a huge fire here in 2003 that took out many of the homes and the Sawmill, the areas largest employer. The forest is slowly recovering.
Sorry about the glare off my window.
Now here's something I personally have never seen before.
We had to assume the helicopter was broken otherwise they would have just flown it to the next destination, right? After another long travel day we finally arrived in Valemount, our home for the night.
We fuelled up in town before arriving at Irvins RV resort. They had just opened for the season as the snow finally disappeared. It was still getting quite cold at night so they did not have water to the sites yet. After checking in at the office we loaded enough water for the night from the office  and set up our rig. A cool thing about Irvins is all the sites are pull through, so easy.
Wonder if there's enough room for us...lol  Beautiful scenery and no crowds this early in the year.
All set up for the night.
After a long day in the truck we all needed a good long walk. It had clouded over and was getting quite chilly but that didn't slow us down. We did a few loops around the park with the princess (Margaret) and then back to the rig to make some supper and went to bed early. Tomorrow we are Alberta bound!
Friday morning we got up and had a quick breakfast and another walk before getting on the road early. It was fairly cloudy and only 8C when we left Valemount. Mount Robson is fairly impressive even on a cloudy day.

Amazing!
We're back!!
Driving through Jasper National Park is always spectacular and is one of our favourite places on the planet. The sheep were out in abundance and we saw three large groups of them on our way through.
We stopped at the mall in Hinton to grab a few groceries and some lunch from a new place called Freshii. They serve mostly Mexican fare, all organic and super fresh. We got a huge burrito to share and some tortilla soup with some to take home for tomorrow. Everything was delicious.  As we left the mountains the clouds disappeared and the temperature came up to 14C.
That big, blue, Alberta sky! Trying to ignore the remnants of snow in the ditch.
Rolled over 50K!
After two days of travel we were very happy to arrive at our RV lot at Pineridge RV and Golf Resort near Seba Beach on Wabuman Lake. The owner of the development had sent us pictures from our lot on April 15th...

Yikes!

Thankfully when we arrived April 20th it looked like this thanks to Jeff plowing the snow with his skid steer last week.
Still a bit of snow around the shed and we left some pretty major ruts but it's good to be at our home away from home. Tomorrow is the first AGM and elections for the condo board here at The Ridge. Time to relax tonight and up early for the meeting tomorrow.

  1. We were sorry to see you go but are looking forward to our visit at your RV park. All that snow is currently causing historic flooding in the BC interior. Glad you made it back with no issues!

    1. The trip was really uneventful which was great. The flooding is everywhere it seems this year! Even some of our roads are under water. Now grass fires have joined the mix, tough on the volunteer firefighters. Couple more weeks and we'll see you again, yay!
