March 13-18, 2018 Vancouver BC

March 13
We spent most of the day getting the fifth wheel set-up: draining anti-freeze, clearing lines, cleaning, dusting and all round re-organization. It was so nice not having to worry about water lines freezing anymore. Nice to not worry about us freezing either!! We took Margaret for a nice long walk along the Capilano River.
We got cleaned up and headed over to my cousins, Rob and Charlene's, for supper.

Appy's and a beverage before dinner
They built a beautiful home in North Van overlooking downtown Vancouver and the Burrard Inlet.
It wasn't the nicest evening but you can imagine how amazing it looks on a clear day. Stunning! We had a great meal and lots of laughs. So good to spend time with some of my favorite people.
We drove home with it raining so hard it was difficult to see. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Beautiful day today!! Charlene drove over to meet us and we enjoyed a lovely 5 km walk around Ambleside Park. I forgot my phone at home so have no pictures....sorry! We decided to go for a snack and beverage at the Village Taphouse at Park Royal Mall. Unfortunately the patio was not open so Margaret was not allowed. Dave offered to run her home and then come back to join us. Charlene and I ordered drinks and had a great visit. Dave still wasn't back so we ordered lunch for the three of us. Apparently the RV park was a bit farther away than we thought as Charlene and I were starting to get worried about having to wash dishes to pay for our lunch as neither of us had money with us! Dave finally arrived and wolfed down his slightly warm beer and slightly cold burger. He certainly got enough exercise today!

Got the market evaluation from our realtor and have listed the house. Unfortunately the market in Bonnyville is terrible as it is an oil town. There are houses still on the market from two years ago. We will list anyways and keep our fingers crossed.  Off for breakfast with Dave's nephew, Bryon, and his youngest daughter, Sophia at the Tomahawk Restaurant. It's been around since 1926, featured on Diner, Drive-ins and Dives and serves free-range , organic everything. Very yummy!

I have been on quite a roller-coaster ride trying to get my pension started. I got yet another email from Alberta Pension Services saying they needed more paperwork done and signed in front of a Commissioner of Oaths. Of course the attached file was corrupted and would not open so I spent another 45 minutes on hold trying to call and get them to resend it. Gggggrrr. Finally left them a message and emailed them back. Let's see how long it takes them to get back to me this time.
We are going out tonight with Rob and Charlene to Browns Social House in Lynn Valley for dinner and some drinks. Their friends Doug and Judy will be meeting us there. They all meet at Browns fairly often and it's a really nice place, we have been to one by Ryan's house in Edmonton a few times too. We had a great evening (sorry no pics, new bloggers!) and moved from Browns to the Legion in Lynn Valley for a nightcap. They are all members of the Legion which is a great organization to support in our opinion. More good times and conversation and we took a cab back to the RV park, good thing ;)

Feeling a little sluggish this morning but getting coffee and breakfast in. Charlene is coming over today and we are going for a walk in Lighthouse Park in West Van.
They sure grow big trees out west
Charlene, Dave and Margaret heading down towards the ocean. It's steeper than it looks so lots of uphill on the way back.

Dave and Margaret out on the rocks (UBC in the background)

Me and Charlene
After our hike we went for a sandwich at the Dundrave Bakehouse. It's a fabulous little bakery and it was very busy but the line-up moved quickly and the sandwiches were worth it. Dave and I grabbed a loaf of bread to take home. Unfortunately my hangover caught up with me by late afternoon and we decided not to go back to the Legion with Rob and Charlene that night. Early to bed for this girl.

March 17
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Bryon, Nikki and their girls Ellison and Sophia came over for a visit and a nice long walk at Ambleside Beach. They are such a great couple and their kids are so sweet and well-behaved. Such a pleasure to spend time with them all.

Ellie had a birthday party at Capilano Mall so we all headed there and had lunch together. Dave and I went home to spend the afternoon doing laundry and an evening home. Somehow we missed getting Nikki in a picture???

March 18
Last day in Vancouver. We went to the Pink Pearl Restaurant for dim sum with Rob and Charlene. It is a huge place with seating for 500+.
The exterior is very deceiving as to the true size of the place! We ate until we were stuffed and Dave and I headed back to the rig to meet up with one of Dave's oldest friends son, Matt. Matt actually came up to work in Bonnyville in 2009 and stayed with us for a few months. Today we got to visit with him and meet his new bride, Shelby, who is great. We hope to see them again on our way back home and get to know her a bit better. Maybe this blog beginner will even remember to take a picture!! lol
We headed back to Rob and Charlene's for pizza and a movie. They have a fantastic theatre room and we snuggled into comfy recliners with our blankets and wine to watch Bladerunner 2049. It was so great to get to spend so much time with everyone. Thanks to all for your time, hospitality, love and friendship. Vancouver Island here we come!
