Aug 13 - 19 Garage siding near done and off to Bonnyville

Aug 13
We have 2 sides of the garage complete for siding and waiting to find out about power supply and what box to install before siding the west wall. I'm not great with the electrical side of things so it takes longer. We missed Katelyn's birthday on the weekend but promised to stop in today with cake so we can say happy birthday. Who knew carrot cake was so hard to find?? Safeway in Stony Plain didn't have any, Costco in St Albert had none either? Freisen Brothers in Ft Sask had what we needed though. Caramel drizzled on top too so it's a winner!
Her Dad built this badboy! Good job G.

Katelyn looks happy about the cake.
We had a nice visit and of course some cake and then we got back in the truck and drove to Bonnyville.
So green and the lake in the distance. Nice.
We went the longer way and stopped at Paul & Di's to drop off the compressor, nailer and other tools they lent us. Thanks you guys so much! The nailer saved so much labour. We stayed for a little while and then headed home. Been a long day and lots of driving, we're done.

As usual we did our chores at the house. Lawn mowing, weeds etc. and cleaning up the yard. Derek and Devan are coming over for supper tonight and a couple beverages. Actually Derek brought all the food and cooked us dinner plus they brought beer. It was fantastic! Les and I were beat from yard work and just hung out and visited while Derek made us all dinner.
Couple of great fellas from work!
They're great guys and they are looking after our house this winter too so we discussed that for a bit. I got "tired" first, not unusual for me, so I went to bed but Leslie stayed up chatting with the boys until 2 am! It was a sleepover for them. No drinking and driving around our house There are beds for everyone.

I was up first and got coffee on when Leslie called me to say there was a problem with Smoky in Edmonton and we need to go there. We hopped in the truck and drove to Edmonton but it all turned out okay so we drove back to Bonnyville that afternoon. Another long drive day so we basically had supper and crashed when we got home.

The smoke from the BC fires is back again pretty bad.
We packed a bunch of stuff into the truck to take to PGR which took us all morning. We left Bonnyville around 2 and did the 4 hour trip to PGR. Too lazy to make supper so we opted for supper at RV pub & grill. Back to the rig and sleep!
Setting sun in the smoke, great food as usual.

We're not mentioning it all the time but we're keeping up the running every couple days. We started today with a nice jog around the resort. Les is doing great and is light jogging too. She has to be careful not to jar her back so she's careful of her footing and the pace. So proud of her. Months ago she said would never try running but she's doing it and liking it! After showers we went to Evansburg to do some shopping and pick up some stuff at the lumber yard. Hurried back to PGR because our friends Scott & Leanne are coming today! It'll be so good to see them again! We really enjoy hanging out with these two. They live in a small town called Mundare between here and Bonnyville so sometimes we call them and swing in to their place for a beverage as we're passing through. They always welcome us in for coffee or whatever and are great to chat with.
Well they arrived around 1:00 pm and we toured them around the resort and then decided to do a little drive around to see the town. As we were getting in the truck to go I set my phone on the box rail of my truck and folded down the back seats so they could sit. We drove down the beach slowly and looked at the boats etc. and then we went through town and back on the highway for a short time until we turned at RV Pub & Grill (about 4 km). When we got out at the pub, Leanne turns to me and says "Dave, is that your phone?" I had left it on the box rail for the entire drive!! Good thing we were going slow and touring or my phone would have been toast. Thanks Leanne for noticing it. Losing your phone is the worst!! We had another great meal at RV Pub and drove back to PGR. With hugs and handshakes we said good bye to Scott & Leanne so they could drive back to Mundare, about 2 hours away. Fantastic visit and we didn't take even one picture. So sorry you guys, you'll just have to come back :)

Our helpers are coming out! Ryan & Ashtyn are coming to help us complete the never ending siding job. They have helped a ton on this garage. Thank you so much!
Hate the double angle cuts

Our build team! Thanks guys.

Dinner time
Terrible sun burst, Leslie and Kirby

We're stuck now waiting for door trim and then we can complete the siding on the front. I'll be glad when this is done. (I think everyone reading will be glad too)

We're driving to Edmonton today to drop Margaret at Ryan's. They dog sit for us too! We heard about a big sale at Running Room in Edmonton and I'm trying to find good trail shoes for the race in Golden. Time is getting short here! They had hundreds of great shoes at great prices but not what I was looking for. Leslie did score a really nice pair of runners though for cheap. My quest continues. We had a quick visit with Ryan & Ashtyn and said so long to Margaret for 8 days, she hates being away from us but she likes Kirby so she'll be fine. From there we drove around to St Albert and stopped at a store attached to Sport Chek called Atmosphere. They have trail shoes. We lucked out and got some help from a nice young girl that is a runner also. I found a pair of Soloman trail shoes and the fit is fantastic, done, finally. Now to just break them in before September 23rd. We had called Barry & Ailsa on the way to St Albert and they are home so we drove to their house for a beverage. Of course we had to get their nod of approval on our shoes because, well, they are the champs and we are the rookies ;)
Awesome grip and a nice fit for us both.
Ailsa really liked Leslie's shoes for the colour. She also has Saucony Peregrines and she loves them. Of course we knew that from the races we have crewed. Barry & Ailsa have been a wealth of knowledge for us. This is what they do in their spare time so any questions we have we just text them and boom! Better than google and they like burgers, beer and wine lol. Doesn't get better.
We drove back to PGR after our visit. They have to pack and fly to work in the morning. We need a good nights sleep tonight as we leave for Victoria tomorrow in the Mustang to attend my nieces wedding!! John's daughter Shannon is marrying a great guy, Daniel Potts We're super excited to get there and see everyone and maybe help out if we can. We'll try to get that posted soon.
